I pulled the head today and sure enough the gasket was broken. I got a new gasket, sprayed it with copper gasket stuff and set it and the head on perfectly using alighnment pins, they really help! It runs better now than it ever has before so I am happy. Do you really have to retorque the head and if so when? It said "no retorque required".
