What do you RKI's think is the best 'inexpensive' engine/trans swap for an M37?

My M37 does not have an engine. I'm considering a Dodge 318 and 727 trans. What other decent possibilities exist that won't cost an arm and a leg? (the diesels are waaay to expensive.)
