I have the same truck. You do have an NP 203 transfer case. It can be converted to part time with a kit from milemarker but the front drive line will still turn unless you get locking hubs. I have heard that milemarker also makes a kit for this but you have to get new components steering Knuckles out (rotors bearings etc). I personally don't plan to do this because the cost of all the components would be greater than that of my beater.
As I understand it, the tcase has a differential in it similar to that in the axles. It is open for street use to allow for different speeds front to back. On loose surfaces you can either put it in HI loc or LO loc. This locks the center dif sending equal tourqe front to back.
