{{I'm trying to find out how to tell the difference between a 6v generator and a 12v generator. I can't see anything stamped or printed on it. There is an old 12v electric fuel pump that was hooked to the carb, so I was wondering if someone might have changed over the truck already.}}

Look around the terminals. There should be a small metal plate. It will show the voltage that is put out by the unit. If it says 7.8 volts for instance, it's a 6 volt unit. I really can't tell you how to open it up and find out what the voltage is. However, if you were to spin the pulley shaft, it should create voltage. Being a generator and not a alternator, it doesn't need a charge to make current. It has permanent magnets.
