There is a very slight difference in power.

T-214 230.2 cu inch 92hp/3200 180ftlb/1200
T-215 230.2 cu inch 99hp/3000 184ftlb/1400

Both have the same compression ration of 6.7:1.

Because the blocks are the same, as are the manifolds, cams, pistons, etc., I would assume the slight difference in power comes from the differnt carbs used on the 1/2T vs. the 3/4T. Also the air cleaners changed pattern, and oil bath air cleaners are quite restrictive. A slight design change for better flow can also change the power.

The T-214 engine was used on WC-51 to WC-60 (3/4T)
The T-215 engine was used on WC-21 to WC-41 (1/2T)

The main difference in the WWII 230 engines are the accessory changes between the 1/2 and 3/4 tons. Reference good engine compartment photos and you'll see. As far as I know everything bolts up the same from 202 to 230 inch (excepting the postwar M37 T245 engine). I see a lot of T-112 engines in WWII vehicles 4x4's, and they originally were used in 4x2's.

You can find the engineering symbol (ie T-214, etc.) on the drivers side of the block, towards the front and just below the head on a flat machined pad.

Be aware that over the years the crank, rods and pistons may hae been swapped, and the 230 shares the same bore with the 217. The stroke difference is 4 3/8" 217 vs. 4 5/8" 230.

If you are real nit-picky for doing an absolute restoration, then these stamped numbers are important. Otherwise, the cubic inch is what really counts. Early 1/2 tonners used the 217. Sometime in late 1941 they changed over the the 1/2 ton 1942 model which went to the 230. During mid 1942 the change was made to the 3/4 ton.

If you suspect your engine is not original (and many aren't) and cannot tell which model you have, the early 41's had rectangular gauges and late 41's and 42's had round gauges.

If you have specifics I can cross-reference them further. Email me.
