Beware of states with no titles for older vehicles.I recently bought a truck in Alabama from a dealer,all numbers correct, not stolen or anything. Alabama gives registration only for 74 and older vehicles.
When I took all papers down to revenue office(Arkansas), they will not recognize it as title. Truck has to be bonded or through a court order process. I talked to Alabama, they told me I did recieve title. They told me in the Polk manual (which lists and shows all titles and such in use for each state)there would be a photo and information stating that what I received would suffice.
State will still not do anything without bonding. They will set a value and then I would have to bond it for twice that amount.
This whole process has pissed me off enough that I am going to take truck back to Alabama, dealer will buy it back for what I paid. Before I bought it I checked with Arkansas and was told registration and bill of sale was all I needed, but they changed the law the Monday after I got back with the truck.
Anyway--check your local regulations regarding no title states!
