I remember the same discussion about forged vs cast. I bought my NOS 230 crank from Vintage Power Wagons for my '50 plymouth engine. Seems I remember someone saying that you can tell by looking at the lumps on the lobes of the crank if it is forged or cast. I can't remember which is which now though. Here's a shot of both my '50 original 218 crank and the NOS 230 from VPW. They both seem to have the same markings...
