I think some or all of the Canadian 230 crankshafts were cast, rather than forged. I got into a debate with someone on another forum, telling him that all of my manuals describe the crank as being a high-carbon steel forged part. He then pulled up his manuals which described them as being cast. Finally, someone else jumped in and stated that some or all of the Canadian crankshafts were cast, while the U.S. crankshafts were forged.

I don't know if that would make any difference regarding how it gets machined or not, but I thought I'd mention it. I like forged cranks because I have the impression that they are stronger. However, if the factory put out some cast ones, then they are probably just fine to use.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Matt
