Hi Dave,
I'm not advocating trying to tow your POWER WAGON with the 1/2 ton truck, but just to get a 'feel' for some of the info here, you might rent a tent trailer for a weekend camp-out, just to get the feel of having something back there to understand some of the dynamics of towing, cornering and braking with a load. Even if you haven't towed yet, your truck should have an electronic brake controller. You can get one for under $200 installed or under a $100 if you install it yourself. They are, to borrow a phrase, priceless. You can take the controller from your present vehicle to another in the future.
At the risk of being flamed, I tow a 4,800 lb travel trailer with a Jeep Liberty and Jeep CJ-7. With experience, equalizer hitch, a good electronic contoller, proper weight distribution and common sense, I have towed that trailer over 15,000 miles without any mishaps,...except for two times when the controller saved my butt (a freshly graveled, off-chamber downgrade, from a 6,000 foot mountain, was one such moment where the trailer wanted to push the Jeep over the cliff).
There must be someone on this forum who is near you that could convoy with you on the trip, keep posting about it and/or ask the Fort Worth area boys if they are going. (although they do have a nice big Ram and a one truck trailer that they are probably taking)
