6 hours to the Badlands Offroad park in a real beautful PW wouldn't be so bad.
I've upgraded to 4.89 gears, disc brakes on the front and a little better breathing with what I think maybe the right setup??
These big old trucks don't like to stop to good even with the old flathead in them.
I would getting it running, fix the brakes and see how you like it? Than make small changes as a driver.
