I also have the later model, 2 hole mount Midland.
Manifold vacuum is routed to the big round vacuum chamber facing the rear of the truck.
The other one at the top, on my unit, has about 3" of vacuum line attached to a filter. I wouldn't run it open. Imagine all the dirt that would get sucked in there going down a dirt road.
