Just a few degrees. It helps make high end horse power, but costs low end.

Cross-firing is another thing all together. Only happens when 2 adjacent cyls fire consecutively, like in 289 & 302 fords. The 2 plug wires running next to eachother induce voltage in each other and fire 45 degrees advanced (#7 fires #8 at same time).The Hi Performance versions changed the firing order. If you have one of the low-po engines, cross the suspect plugwires 3 times, it seems to prevent the crossfire.

Newer Ford 4 cyls use 2 coils, each fire 2 cyls at the same time- one is at TDC, the other is at BDC and doesn't ignite anything. Maybe this is called cross-over?
