I prefer generators for two reasons, one, the brackets and wiring are all the same. Two, if you have a battery go bad on you , you can get a jump or compression start the vehicle and drive to acros the country!! Alternators need voltage to work corrctly, generators do not when they spin they are completely self sufficient. I have had a few batteries go bad off roading. With a generator You can take the battery out and go. Alternator must have some voltage to work. They look cooler too.
