Nah, he's probably too paranoid. There's a big underground market for loud, slow, smoking, bedless, rusted, 50-year old trucks, you know.
That's why they're so hard to find in this country; all the rich Colombian drug lords consider them the vehicle of choice, and have their minions fervently roaming through the heartland of America, stealing them as fast as they are listed on the registry.
Why, just the other day, a swarthy, shifty-eyed bandito in an off-white linen suit offered me a suitcase full of cocaine for mine.
