There seems to be an increasing number of quite sophisticated attempts at fraud. I have gotten quite a few e-mails that look pretty good, that take you to websites that look pretty good, that ask for critical information. Some of the links on the e-mail take you to genuine pages on the site in question. I am speaking primarily of ISP sites, such as Earthlink. I have also received some that claim to be associated with ebay. I am sure the big players will be exploited the most.
I am afraid that people new to the internet could easily fall victim to such things. Even as suspicious as I am, there have been a few that I explored for a long time, trying to establish legitimacy, even though they looked to me for a while to be genuine.
I am afraid these people are going to get even better at all of this. Apparently the problem is that there is no good way to trace them, which I have to say I don't understand.
At some point there will need to be an international enforcement agency, I suspect.
