Some guys say you can damage the MC by putting it in "dry" if somebody steps on the pedal before there's fluid in it. I find that it's very easy to just clamp the MC in a vise, hook a hose(maybe a piece of old brake line with the fitting) to the outlet, run it back so it goes into the reservoir, and pump the piston with a big screwdriver until all the air is out of the system. It doesn't take long, it might be good for the MC, and it make bleeding the whole system easier.
