No, it's not puppies or kittens.

I have a small, metal Bell System dashboard data plate that came off a 1946 PW. It has the NY Tel Co vehicle number, tire pressure specs (front & rear) and the GVW all stamped into the 2" square plate. It does not indicate that it is phone company plate, but I can assure you it is.

Condition 8 out of ten.

The way we know it's from a 1946 is (1) I owned the truck, and parted it out 20 years ago, and (2) the phone company uses a numbering method that denotes the year of manufacturer, the make, and the company serial number.

This would be good for any 1946 truck of any manufacture that is restored to resemble a phone company rig. It could also conceivably be used on a 1956 or even 1966, as the last digit of the year ("6") is the only clue to the year it indicates.

It came from a truck that was originally equipped with the larger front winch, with cable-winder attachment, and A-frame. The truck was in service in the Long Lake district of the NY Adirondack Mountain area. So if anyone in the Adirondacks is thinking of re-creating a Bell System PW, and needs this plate, I'm happy to donate it in return for some maple syrup.
