Norm,

The last time I was on the Angeles Crest Forest road (California), I overheard a guy saying that we needed to display something (day use permit) in the window or face a fine. I did not drive through any offical entry gate or anything. Also did not see any signs to that effect. Must be a great way to milk a lot of money via fines out of ordinary people just out for a Sunday drive. This was not a dirt road, this was a state highway.
