The sad thing is that over the years a lot of people have donated their land to "the public" for a park or campground, thinking that it would then be open to all people to enjoy forever, and now it's turned out that whatever government agency they gave it to is closing it to the public or is charging admission. I even know of one case where the county flat-out sold a donated "park" to a developer and put the proceeds in the general fund.
