I remember reading in the Bunn & Brownell Dodge Book, that the truck engines had various upgrades over the car engines, even for the same size engine. The truck engines had upgrades not included in the car engines, and the engines in the bigger trucks had upgrades not included in the engines used in the smaller trucks.

I don't rememeber very many specifics, but it had to do with high-wear items in certain areas, such as valves, rings (I think?) and a few other areas. Based on the information I read, a 251 used in a 3-ton truck, for example, had more upgrades to slow down the wear process than a 251 used in a 1-ton truck, which in turn, had more upgrades than the 251 used in a passenger car.

Specifically, I remember that the larger trucks had sodium-filled valves, to help with keeping the valve head cooler, and I think there was something in there about better piston rings. I can't remember what else there was.

I'll try to remember to look in my copy of that book and see what else it says.

Matt
