I have changed a few split rims over the years. The small ring wheels for a 7.50 x 16.0 tire are really not a problem.
We changed a 14 ply tire on an M37, wearing heavy jackets, motorcycle helmets, and thick gloves. We chained thru and around the rim when airing it up. We looked like the skinny guys who wear those funny sumo wrestling suits.
Since I have a tire guy in SATX who changes the tires for dirt cheap, I dont touch them anymore, and my tire tools just gather dust. I would change one again in an emergency or neccesity.
Tough part is getting the bead to break.
