It seems Washington State has a habit of using the engine number as the VIN number on titles and registrations. I've seen several trucks papers up to at least 1950 that use the engine number for the VIN instead of the frame/doortag serial numbers. I'm wondering how many other states used the engine number for VIN or if Washington State may have changed to frame numbers in later years for id purposes? It would sure be hard to prove ownership in some cases if the original block is gone and there was a question by the revenuers who really belongs to a truck.
