Emergency brake drum on transmission?

While dismantling my parts truck today, I noticed that the front of the intermediate shaft, had a flange with 4 holes. Then I notice a big bracket around the output shaft of the transmission and the output shaft had about a 1 1/2 space on it where something had been.. After a bit it dawned on me that there had been an emergency brake on the back of the tranny. Would that indicate that the tranny came out of a 2wd truck? The other interesting thing, and this may be standadr on the older PWs the emergency brake drum on the transfer case was operated by a cable, not a rod. Same handle in the cab though. anyone else seen this?
