My nameless friends also had a rebuilt engine that they had not filled the crankcase with oil. It sat for many months in a corner of the shop. Later they installed it, started it, and saw the oil pressure go way up and then drop to nothing.

It seems, two rats had gotten into the cranckcase and died there. When they started the engine, rat remains got into the oil pump and beyond. There was even rat hair in the oil filter.

So what has this to do with the motor problems of the M-43. It turned out that the muffler was packed with corn, probably deer feed that was kept in another corner of the shop. Maybe the same rats had used the muffler for a grain bin.

Hey, Norm... Isn't this the corniest story you have ever heard?

I can hear Norm now... "Rats, I wish these neat things happened out here on the Left Coast."
