Indeed he did say 1986. I misread that. 1986 is very late production, and indeed would be more valuable. If it is truly a 1986, why does it have a non-turbo engine? Most of the old gassers were converted to multifuels by swapping in LDT-465s between 1986 and 1989. It doesn't make sense that a truck built in 1986 would have an LD-427 in it. He should look again at the data plate on the engine and on the truck itself. Also, a 1968 truck was probably made by Kaiser Jeep, but a 1986 one was made by AM General. Of course anything could have been swapped, from the engine to the data plate, either before or after it left the army. $2500 seems a little generous to me if it's a 1968 non-turbo ragtop with a sprag transfer, but if it's a 1986 with a real good body, it would be quite reasonable. Mechanical parts are easier and cheaper to swap out than sheet metal. I don't have any duece that isn't rusted through somewhere, but that's probably because they all came from Fort Lewis, which in my grandpa's day was known as "Swamp Lewis".
