I had similar problems before I got my truck runnin gagain. I opted to replace everything in the distributor. I figured I'd solve the problem by replacing everything. This way, I'd eliminate the problem right from the start. It worked.

I'd go for a NOS or takeout coil instead of a new one. I have heard the same things about the new ones being bad, so I bought a takeout coil, new points, condensor, rotor, cap, and plugs. The only thin gI didn't replace were the plug wires. They seemed ot be in good enough shape, so I left them in.
