12 volt to six volt stepdown

My 51-B3 has a 12 volt system. I want to install a six volt siren. Sirens have a high amp rating, maybe 40 amps( or higher).
What device do I need to install to make this workout? The small instrument resistors 3-5 amps will not work. Even the J.C. Whitney 20 amp ceramic over heats,glows red hot!
