Hey Lifer!
I know that they did complain in 1775! One of my ancestors (grandpa with about eight grands before his name) wintered at Valley Forge, 1st Virginia Dragoons.
I was watching the non-stop Memorial Day Movies that they alweas play over this weekend on cable TV. One movie was about the Army of the Occupation, fighting insurgents, struggling to provide jobs and food to the liberated, and setting up an interim government, so that the defeated country could be self ruled. It was Germany, 1950. Our occupation lasted over 40 years, I am a proud owner of a Army of the Occupation medal. People forget that we were there for so long and faced many of the same issues in Germany and Japan that we face today in Iraq. It has only been a year in Iraq.
I wonder how hard the occupation mission would have been after WWII if we had received the same amount of whining then from the "loyal opposition" and the press as we are now seeing in Iraq?
MN
PS: great Dodge footage in those old war movies!
