Trunnion bearing preload question

Hi folks-
I need some help on my 1946 WDX.
I am currently rebuilding the front axle assembly. I elected to use a bearing instead of the bronze bushing on the upper trunnion pin. The book says to adjust the preload on the trunnion bearings (by adding or removing shims)so that there is 25 to 27 foot/pounds of drag on the steering knuckle. To me that seems like a lot of preload on a two bearing setup. Any suggestions as to how much drag the knuckle should have with the two bearing arrangement would be appreciated.
