We have WIndows XP with a newer Dell and dial up on seperate phone line at home. I have NOrton/symantec . Up until a few weeks ago things worked fine. Then,
things slowed down to a crawl, almost lock up.
Two different techs said different things, but the second one feels there was a trojan virus replicating the file Iexplore.exe in the background to use up all the memory. One check of processes showed it listed 15 times, for example (I saw this). This tech reloaded? the program and reinstalled a firewall two as well as adware and spybot to remove some stuff they found. The computer is better but still slower than before.
The first tech said it was a problem with the internet provider, as he said the speed was normal when he logged on to his account on another provider. The second tech was with the internet provider so of course he did not agree.
