Why do you want a 12v starter? Is the truck wired for 12v? If the truck is wired for 12v, keep the 6v starter, an engine in good tune will fire up twice as fast with the 6v and when the motor fires right away there will not be enough voltage for a long enough time to harm the 6v starter. If a 6v starter will not start it in about 3 seconds, there are other problems that are not associated with the starter.
