if the studs have been in for 50+ years wont want to come out easily Murphys law =
the first two would come right out and the last one would break off or something like that
there are (although I dont know the source - someone will) head stud nuts with another stud coming out the top the nut has to be deep enough so your stud does not bottom out
these were used in a lot of applications where accessories were attached to various places on engines
You might even get a machine shop to fabricate some for you or get a very tall nut and make your own
would your unit allow for the additional height ??
