Hi everyone, I have '48 B-1-PW with 230 flathead, Zenith carb. When the engine is running at idle it doesn't seem to be generating enough voltage to fire the plugs. I have to run at hi rpms to get it smooth. The alternator seems to be working, when I rev it the meter swings to +. When its idling it goes thru surge & near-stall cycle every few seconds. When I'm driving and decelerate (go downhill) the engine backfires. Problem is intermittant, seems to happen more often in damp weather. Thanks for help & advice.
