a stock radiator - cleaned and tested- should have no problem cooling a 318. my old truck has a 360 high performance rebuild with the stock rebuild - no shroud - and a 16" flex fan. temp never got higher than the 190 thermo unless you really lugged it. when lugged or worked temp rose as it would in any truck, but would recover quickly. an aux cooler is only masking the problem you have. get the rad cleaned & see if you have enough fan to get the job done. guys are running diesels in these trucks and are not having problems. 10 to 1 you have a clogged radiator. check your thermostat - make sure you run one and use antifreeze at the right mixture. straight af is not better.
