A agree about joining a local military vehicle club. They are a bunch of great people to know and are very helpful in many ways. They are really interested in the preservation of military vehicles and will go to all ends to help anyone interested. They can be a great source of parts too. I have known them to give them away if it will help preserve a vehicle. Always there with advice and muscle when you need them.
Another bit of advice. Don't wait til you have the money to get involved. Buy what you can afford and start working on it. You may pay a little more over time but you will never forget the experience.
If I had waited until I had the money to do anything I would not have gotten married, bought a car, a house, a Power Wagon to restore or a hundred other things I have acquired over the years. Good luck and have fun. Gad, I wish I was 17 again!
