Look for a small screw-on tag on the passenger's side door pillar near the lower door hinge. The tag should have the code "4149-XXXX" or "4249-XXXX." "41" indicates a 1/2 ton, while "42" indicates a 3/4 ton, while "49" indicates a carryall body. XXXX is the consecutive factory build number of this vehicle.

A data plate should also be on the glove box showing the vehicle serial number and date of delivery. Sometimes the date of delivery is not filled out. Frequently the data plate is missing.

The left-hand frame rail between the bumper and front wheel (on the outer side) is also stamped with the vehicle serial number.

The 1/2 tons have a curved grille while the 3/4 tons have a flat grille.

As tho the V-8 engine, I'm sure you can solicit many opinions from this page, but even with a V-8 it still won't go very fast- and if it does, the brakes are inadequate.....It's kind of like putting a V-8 in a Model T with no other modifications- the drivetrain isn't meant for that kind of power. You'd be better off working a second job and buying an SUV if that's what you really want!

In any case, carryalls are rather rare....and very COOL!
