Actually the fastener are CADMIUM plated not nickel. As far as stainless steel fasteners are concerned they look great and can be polished to a mirror like finish but the strength of them is the same as a Grade 2 bolt. The following may help:
Tensile strength of fasteners:
Stainless Steel = 85,000 LBS.
Grade 2 = 85,000 LBS.
Grade 5 = 120,000 LBS.
Grade 8 = 150,000 LBS.
The brass color of modern Grade 8 bolt is there so that an inspector can check at a glance instead of having to get down and count the hash marks and add 2.
