Offer to tow away that "Unsightly Junk Truck" on one hand, and talk to the Fire Department/ Sherriff, to see if you could sign for it, restore it and use it for Emergency use whenever called on by the Community (as a Community Volunteer) Stress the fact it's a rotting unsightly hulk right now and you would gladly clean the town up by disposing of it.
They are allowed to get rid of equipment that no longer meets mission support, if they have had it for a year, I think they met the requirement. As an example, if I buy a weapon under my Collectors permit, I cannot resell it for at least a year or I would be dealing. (BATF) Your on the right trail, just have to get with the administration department and find out who's in charge.
Add up the cost of them hauling it back to the local "Government Disposal Agent", the Cleanup and purging of all oils, gas, etc. and the great environmental impact statement for this, then talk the $ it would cost for that leaded paint cleanup, etc. Plus the Gov agency on the other end likely won't want it brought back, due to paperwork/storage, disposal, etc.
Or, have a local towing company/junkyard guy (old timer that knows people) approach the sherriff to recommend disposal of it, offer to pay for the disposal, etc. then get it from him.
This could be done with a little persistance and luck. Regards WAW
You'd really be doing your Community a service by disposing of the trash heap, I bet it even has an Asbestos Clutch and brake shoes, ooooohhhhhhhh, don't breathe near it! Or children might get hurt crawling over it bu the rusted sharp metal.
Good Luck WAW
