A few years ago I wanted to build a garage by my house. I went to the
city building dept and paid my money to get a permit. To make a long
story short they wouldn't let me build it the way I wanted to. I went
back and told them I'd changed my mind about building it and got most
of my permit fee back. I went home and changed my mind again and built
the garage the way I wanted to. It took me about 2 months to get it done.
A week after it was done I got a letter from the city historical commision
complementing my on my fine looking new garage which matched my old house
so well and inviting me to come to their little doings and receive an
award for building such a nice garage. I guess it was a case of the left
hand not knowing what the right hand was doing, but it turned out to my
advantage.
