Well finally got to the barn....
.....I was happy to discover that my 56 C4 has the proper carb according to your info... it's a E7T2 and I found the same carb on the spare engine that came from a 52-53 Dodge pickup 2 wheel drive.
However this spare engine has a "T307-xxxx" engine number which I assume is a 218 cubic inches..... am I correct???? I had assumed that it was a 230....bummer since it has only 500 miles since rebuilding.

Now on the C4 the engine is stamped "137 *101255* which I believe is the original engiend rebuilt about 4k miles/ 7 years ago....

In my pile of old carbs I found a E7L4.... which accoring to an old Chilton is for a Chrysler/Desoto auto trans... it has two electrical connection on the top bowl and one more on the bottom of the main body.
Also have a E6M1... which has no provision for the 2 in extension to fit between the carb tio and bottom of the filter. This one as an external accelarator pump right through the top cover where the fin should be. I saw this carb on a PW in Vermont...called Emma... and by all accounts ran very well with that configuration.
Also have a NOS E7S1.... base similar to M-37 but top is diffferent... it has a 4 bolt flange where the air filter is connected. Was told that it was for a WC.... yet in some old shop manuals I have seen pictures of this square top assotiated with late 50s PW?????

Now I know that what I called the "rib" on the top cover is called the "fin" and that some have the number stamped on the fin..... and unfortunetaly some had triangular ID tags attached under one of the cover screws which is the first thing to get lost during a carb rebuild...

It has been an experience.... but now I know what kit to order....
Will do my best to drive the parts guy crazy this weekend....

Thanks for all your help

NOTE to Joe Cimoch..... how do we submit tech info like this for inclusion in the reference section????

Cheers Bob C.
