The original style lock out resembled a door hinge with with the pin parallel to the for/aft axis of the truck. One plate was fixed to the tranny cover just right of the lever and the other hinged plate had a cut out in the center notched for the lever. This allowed the plated to be flipped down preventing the accidental engagement of the PTO lever or flipped up out of the way for operation. Look in some manuals or other pics as it is quite simple when you see it. Enjoy!
