OT: Re-tempering cold chisel?

I have a nice little good-quality Proto cold chisel which has started getting dull way too fast. I think I burned the edge sharpening it on a grinding wheel. Any advice on how to re-harden and temper it so it'll be as good as new? I'm afraid if I just heat it red hot and quench it in water, it'll be too brittle. Maybe it needs to be hardened and then tempered or maybe just hardened, or maybe it's oil-hardening rather than water-hardening steel. Anybody actually know how to do it properly?
