I dipped the side gears if gear oil. I'm not sure what state the lube was in after I finished heating the differetial case to screw the cap back in.

Immediately after asembly, I tried jacking up one wheel and rocking a wheel back and forth, but couldn't get it to spin. I hoped it might break in. I've put around 250 miles on it now.
