Clint, this sounded really good! But it was the SAME supplier, just a different axle. The early W100 and W200 used different axle housings, front to rear, but BOTH where by Dana. While I really like the gear lash theory, I suspect that the real reason is that the ring carrier is a different size between the two and this is as close as they could get. They did the same thing with the 4.10/4.09 in the Dana 44/60 mix.
When you change ratios in a Dana, quite often if you jump to a much different ratio, you have to change the carrier also.
