The #1 spark plug wire goes on the dist cap where the rotor points when the #1 piston is in the top of the cylinder on the compression stroke. If the engine is absolutely stock, the #1 wire is exactly where the manual shows it to be in the drawing showing the dist cap wire connections - easier to see than describe.
