If your truck is parked and you are winching or wrecking, that will put quite a strain on the handbrake mechanisim and rear driveshaft. If the back wheels are unevenly loaded using the winch may winch the truck forward rarther than the load back.

This little number locks all four wheels hydraulically and takes the strain off the handbrake, though it would be good policy to have the handbrake on too.

I used to drive a military Diamond T wrecker with air brakes, and if you wanted to do serious work you pusehed down the brake pedal and flipped over a little catch to hold the brake pedal down and lock all ten wheels. Then you weren't going to get dragged anywhere - handbrake or no.
