Many of the old buggys were made out of stipped down Model A fords and similar vehicles, if you found an old 4x4 you were doing good as most buggys were 2wd. We used aircraft tires, extra transmissions, and did not use high RPM but instead just chugged along. The high RPM stuff you see at the Swamp buggy races in Naples is not the norm when we were out in the Glades. I remember building one with a friend in the early 60's out of a Crosley Hot Shot, took off the body and added a Ford tranny and rear end out of a '56 wagon behind the Crosley tranny.
