do you have the original cap with the original wires in their original locations?
if so put that cap back on
put the original condenser back in
make sure that the little wire coming out of
the distribtor is not frayed and shorting out
against the dist body 40 year old wires (and their insulation) do not like to be disturbed
are the points set to the correct gap (clearance)
do you have an ohm meter ??
