To make sure, you can manufacture a air pressure fitting welded on to an old spark plug.Doing one cylinder at a time, put each piston at TDC,screw your manufactured fitting to the cyl, apply air pressure, hear for air leaking out of exaust valve thru pipe.Holding cyl at TDC is important don't let it move. Listen for air leaking from intake valve thru carburator.

Listen see air leaking from your breather pipe.If it's only leaking from your breather pipe you have a piston and or ring problem.SOMETIMES you can fix using the following method.Drain engine oil fill with diesel fuel let run for apprx 30 minutes at idle. Watch oil pressure and water temp. If rings are stuck in the piston ring lands from sitting for a long time this will fix it. If the problem is valve related this will obviosly not work.

If you drain diesel fuel and it comes out thick its working,do it again. this will fix this specific problem, it also works on differentials and trannys. This is an old true and tried method. Its not a miracle cure all,but after this you will no for sure what the next course of action is. Good luck Lucian
