Chain Tighteners

What is the best type of chain tighteners. I need a set as I am getting ready to haul my Carryall to Hollister. I have the trailer now the tie downs. I have seen two styles, one a lever action one and the other a racheting style. Which is better? It looks like the lever one should have a lock mechanism to stop it from popping open.

I also assume that I only need tighteners on one end of the truck as they will pull everything tight. Tell me if I am thinking correctly on this. My plan is to put an individual chain at each corner of the carryall and go to the side of the trailer. I plan on putting the tighteners on the back of the carryall so if they fail the truck will go forward into the front bulkhead of the trailer. I have used nylon straps in the past but it appears that I should be using chains with this big of a load.
